Galactica Turns 30! Sept 18,2008

"..After the prototype helmet was started, I was asked to provide concepts for the entire suit. The one requirement was that it should have “high-waisted” proportions. Starting with the front, where I echoed the helmet’s ‘mouth-area’ horizontal slats, placed just under the chest (those ’slats’, incidentally, were there originally to duplicate the Cylon Fighter cockpit windows, as a way of providing a subconscious visual unity.”

Terminator: Bear McCreary Sept 7,2008

Tomorrow night on Fox,?Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles?returns! ?Last season, I wrote a menacing, brooding and yet?uplifting score, performed by electric string quartet, woodwinds, synths and?metallic percussion. ?This season, the epic story arcs continue and?I returned to that musical universe and expanded it.

Most exciting of all, I arranged and produced a song featured prominently in the season's opening moments. ?I completely re-imagined the Rev. Gary Davis'?Samson and Delilah, giving it a?Gospel-Spiritual / Folk-Blues / Heavy Metal / Terminator Score?spin. ?The vocals were performed by a world-class rock star whose unique voice you will?all?recognize. ?But, I promised the showrunners I'd keep the vocalist a secret until the show airs! ?Check out?my blog?Monday night to see who it is.

My first soundtrack album for?Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles?will be released by La La Land Records next month. ?It will include highlights from the first and second seasons, including?Samson and Delilah. ?In October, La La Land will also release my film score?Rest Stop: Don't Look Back, which is a kick ass Southern Rock / Horror score, featuring five songs I produced for the film series.

Speaking of CDs, my?Eureka?soundtrack CD?is finally shipping! ?The score to this quirky sci-fi comedy could best be described as a twisted blend of folk, blues and zydeco with 80s New Wave synths, 8 and 16 bit video games, 70s keyboards and a twist of flamenco. ?It's delightfully insane music and I'm thrilled that it's finally available on CD. ?Early reviews have been good. ?Score Notes?asks "How could you not like the music of 'Eureka?' ?The score is a toe-tapping, explorative?hoot.? In a complete?reversal in style?from his 'Galactica' works, McCreary shows us his lighter side by writing music that is experimental, catchy and full of colorful personality. ?'Eureka' offers a brand of music that is specific to its own universe and it is quite lighthearted. ?When people speak of film composers of the future, he is definitely someone to keep an eye on; his voice is too original to keep in television for too much longer." ?Eureka's third season began airing on Sci Fi Channel in July and our mid-season finale airs next week.

And?I am still scoring?Battlestar Galactica's last ten episodes, and they are stunning, fully living up to the promise of the series. ?I hope you enjoy the?Terminator?premiere tomorrow night!

GALACTICA GAME ART June 15,2008

The Cylons were obviously collectively an important character; it was my desire to make them formidable and sterile. It was John Mamais that pushed for them to be taller than in the original TV show. And so it was that with the help of visionary Justin Sweet, the Cylons emerged. Comparing the original design (top of the page) to the final result, it's an impressive evolution. ..

Been a while since I last shared with you all but with the debut of season four, I wanted to share with you what’s been going on with Battlestar, our new and updated Battlestar site and our planned social networking service we hope to have up and running in the very near future. I hope you all enjoyed the opening show and much appreciation for surviving such a long wait for the new season.

Reviews! April 1,2008

"Battlestar Galactica" is a sci-fi series perfectly suited for people who normally don't like science fiction. That's because it has never been a big-budget production and it forced the show's creators, writers and actors to improvise the ways they told stories. In short, they got creative and found a way to be better than they likely would have been with more money. Instead of pyrotechnic effects, the emphasis is on the writing; the acting, which is raw but nuanced; and the direction, which must be nimble as most scenes are shot inside a cramped spaceship.

Battlestar Prequel Confirmed March 25,2008

The Sci-Fi Channel has now confirmed that it has given the green light to a two hour pilot of Caprica, set a full fifty years before the events of Battlestar Galactica. Production on the show will begin in the next month or two, and once again Ronald D Moore and David Eick are behind it. With a bit of luck, we may get to see it this year, but we wouldn't bet on it just yet.

Three law professors at the blog Concurring Opinions have an hour-long interview with Moore and Eick about the legal, political, moral, and economic issues raised by the show. The interview is available in audio files; alternatively, people can read a transcript of the interview (Part I) and (Parts II and III). Part I examines the lawyers and trials in the show, how torture is depicted, as well as how the humans must balance civil liberties and security. Part II examines politics and commerce. It explores how the cylon attack affected the humans' political system, and it examines how commerce works in the fleet. Part III examines issues related to cylons, such as the humans' treatment of cylons, how robots should be treated by the law, how the cylons govern themselves politically."

Pencils! Dec 1,2007

On Thursday, November 8th, the creators of Smallville offered a challenge to all of the other TV series who have devoted fanbases to see whose fans can really deliver the goods (in this case, pencils). "Don't get me wrong," Al Gough told his fans, "We are stoked by the response so far, but we felt there must be something we can do to really light a fire under it going into the holidays." So Al and Miles decided to give the gift of Lex. For every box of environmentally friendly pencils Smallville fans buy at www.Pencils2MediaMoguls.com in the name of Smallville, their name would be entered into an e-raffle. A winner will be picked at random and they will receive a phone call from Michael Rosenbaum thanking them for their support of both the cause and the show and an autographed photo. Today Kim Delaney from Army Wives and Colin Ferguson from Euraka agreed to do the same. They'll also call a fan, chosen at random, from all of the fans who buy pencils in support of their shows.

Mary McDonnell, Tricia Helfer, Michael Hogan, Jamie Bamber, and Michael Trucco have all agreed to make a personal phone call to fans who win the raffles in their names. The way this will work is simple: when you go to the Pencils site, the first box you’ll see asks you the name of the show you wish to support. Type in “Battlestar Galactica” and then the name of one of these actors, and your name will then be automatically entered into a raffle, with the winner in each category receiving a personal phone call from that actor. You can certainly buy boxes of pencils for more than one actor, but each box can only be assigned one name. Also, in the event that the winner of the Aaron Douglas raffle is not in Vancouver, or cannot travel there (on their own dime), Aaron has offered to make a personal phone call to that fan and send a piece of signed memorabilia. This is a really great and generous offer from our cast members and it could be a once in a life-time chance to get to talk to them, so take advantage of the opportunity and help us drown the moguls in pencils!

BATTLESTAR RAZOR! Oct 15,2007

The Two-Hour Event

The special two-hour episode "Razor", which will serve as a backdrop for the events of season four of Battlestar Galactica, tells the story of Lee Adama's first mission as the commander of the battlestar Pegasus — and the harrowing tale of that ship's desperate fight for survival in the immediate aftermath of the Cylon's genocidal siege of the Twelve Colonies.

Lee Adama's new XO, Major Kendra Shaw, is plagued by memories of her service and sacrifices under Admiral Helena Cain, who was able to save her ship during the Cylon attack — but only by making Shaw and her fellow officers rationalize suicidal battle tactics and brutal war crimes against their own people.

In the crucible of war, Shaw must let her hesitation and doubts burn away, until all that remains of her is the honed edge of a living human weapon — what Colonial veterans call "a razor." But an edge so fine cuts in more than one direction. It can cleave an enemy to pieces … or it can carve away a person's soul.

.. Viewers not only saw an impressive acting range, but heard his musical talent, stemming from early nurturing of classical piano at the tender age of eight. In fact, Hatch's musicianship was so well received, MGM Records came calling and he nearly signed a deal. Now his son continues the legacy as songwriter and musician in his own right.

Many boast of being inspirational or motivational. Any actor worth their salt can inspire us to at least believe a character their portraying. With Richard Hatch, the motivational part is no empty boast. While chatting, I couldn't help reminisce about myself growing up watching him as star traveling Apollo and the wholly satisfying achievement of scaling trees as a boy. ..

Memorial Day May 25,2007

Take Back Memorial Day by Christopher Michel Military.com

This morning I opened the paper and a series of circulars spilled onto my lap – bright, colored pages with bold fonts and frenetic language: “Now through Memorial Day only!” and “A Don’t Miss Memorial Day Sales Event!” As I took a deep breath and gathered up the pages that had spilled to the floor, at once it struck me: We owe more than commerce to those who sacrificed the balance of their lives for their country. It's time to take back Memorial Day.

Memorial Day is meant to be a solemn occasion, a uniquely military holiday—the only one that honors fallen soldiers. But since the first one on May 30, 1868, a little after the Civil War (then known as “Decoration Day”) when flowers were placed on the graves of soldiers from both the North and the South, Memorial Day’s quiet reverence has slowly been lost to the noise of commerce and the American pursuit of recreation. This didn’t happen overnight; it snuck up on us. And it’s not necessarily the fault of the American people who time and again have proved themselves patriots.

Even more surprising is that this disappointing trend hasn’t ebbed since the Long War began more than five years ago. Today the solemnity once associated with this day should be closer to the surface. Our nation is at war, which is to say our friends, family, and neighbors are fighting. Some of them do not make it home. In recent years, too many Americans have been personally touched by the sacrifice of battle. But the unfortunate reality is that for most people, the war remains a distant concept, something that happens on TV.

Losing brave Americans on fields of strife is not a new phenomenon. It’s part of our heritage. For over two hundred and twenty five years, our troops have made the ultimate sacrifice for what they believed was worth more than their own lives: Freedom. Not just the notion of freedom or the sound bite called forth in politically expedient ways, but freedom practiced by Americans every day.

This freedom is a gift across time, given most often anonymously. And now it is Memorial Day. How can Americans take it back and do right by the valor that created this day?

By action. For starters, the National Moment of Remembrance resolution asks that at 3 PM local time on Memorial Day all Americans should “voluntarily and informally observe in their own way a moment of remembrance and respect, pausing from whatever they are doing for a moment of silence.”

Beyond that, Americans can honor the dead by supporting the living, especially those who serve. Send a note or visit the family of a servicemember who has died. Visit a veteran who is convalescing. Make a donation to the Tragedy Assistance Program for Survivors, Armed Forces Relief Trust, or the Armed Services YMCA. Volunteer to work with local veterans’ groups. Encourage your employer to publicly recognize the veterans who work with you. Better yet, commit to hire veterans or military spouses in the coming year.

Visit the graves of fallen soldiers. Leave a flower on the stone. Consider the grave and behold the cost of freedom.

Or simply shake a Soldier’s hand. Support for the troops is more than a sticker on an SUV. Whatever we do, let’s make it personal, not commercial.

Let us take back Memorial Day, not for abstract ideas or guilt for having forgotten, but to pay a debt. To remember—and to act on the memory—is the least we can do for the men and women who said, “I will die so strangers’ lives will be better.” Make Memorial Day a personal reflection of a stranger’s costly gift.

I think that Zaric has a lot of respect for Roslyn. He's gained a lot of respect, not respect as a person, but respect for Baltar's skill. I think he's come to recognize that Baltar's a lot smarter than he sometimes pretends to be. Sometimes he plays stupid. He plays naïve, but there's something far more aware going on. I find the Baltar character one of the more interesting characters on the show, for that same reason. What's motivating him? Sometimes our ego -- our need to be loved, our need to feel important -- drives us, but ultimately, on the way, we have an epiphany. We have a revelation. We're all capable of moving into a greater realization of who we are in the world, and finding a more positive way to do something.

On a Personal Note... - Feb 19,2007

My Dad (Joe McAdams) passed away this week. He had been fighting lung cancer for the last two years... and yes he got lung cancer from smoking. My only hope is that at least one person might read this and consider kicking the habit. If he could have gone back in time and quit smoking...he would have. Life doesn't work that way. There is a painful price to pay.

BATTLESTAR GALACTICA TAKES ANOTHER RATINGS HIT Jan 28,2007

THE SKINNY: Well, it looks like my cheerleading for everyone to watch BATTLESTAR GALACTICA on its new Sunday night slot was not a great success. The ratings took another slide downwards on its new night.

The first of 10 episodes from the popular SCI FI Channel series’ third season debuted Jan. 21 to a 1.4 household rating/1.8 million viewers, according to an ABC Cable Networks Group analysis of Nielsen Media Research data.

Those ratings were below the 1.9-rating/2.1 million viewers the show averaged during the second half of its second season from when it aired on Friday nights.

Bear McCreary - Jan 20,2007

My newest soundtrack CD has finally come out, for Warner Bros.' film "Rest Stop," a small horror movie that was released on DVD last October. The score is one of my best: lyrical, melodic, quirky and creepy. Check out audio clips and a track-by-track review on my blog:

The record has my complete score and three original songs, performed by Raya Yarbrough, Bt4 and the Rev. Buford "Buck" Davis and His Minstrel Singers. Edward James Olmos liked the first track, "All That Remains," so much that it will be appearing in next week's episode of "Battlestar Galactica," which he directed.

'Stellar 'Galactica' Jan 15,2007

As fans of "Battlestar Galactica" wait anxiously for the series' third season to resume, Dynamite's "Battlestar Galactica" comic series not only fills the vacuum, but is so good it will likely last long after the TV show has gone the way of the Enterprise.

Set in the middle of the second season, writer Greg Pak successfully captures the sophistication of the show as well as its overall vibe and that of its numerous and unique characters. Whether it's Commander Adama's quiet strength, Starbuck's cockiness and cool, Number Six's sultry manipulations, Gaius Baltar's psychoses and desire for self-preservation or President Roslin's steel will, all these characters ring true.

'Battlestar' fan or not, you'll like 'Zarek' Jan 13,2007

By JEROME MAIDA

For the Daily News

I don't normally spotlight miniseries (or books that are two months late), but I have to bring your attention to the just-issued "Battlestar Galactica: Zarek" from Dynamite.

The four-issue limited series focuses on Tom Zarek - the fan-favorite revolutionary played by original series actor Richard Hatch - and tells how he grew up with loving parents in the slave state that is his own Sagittaron colony and in the shadow of the First Cylon War.

As we see in the first issue, everything from the government's repressive policies to devastating personal tragedies helped slowly meld this innocent child into a ruthless rebel.

Whether or not you watch "Battlestar Galactica," you should enjoy this series. The writing of Brandon Jerwa and the stunning artwork by Adriano Batista combine to make "Zarek" a great read.

RON MOORE .THE THING FROM ANOTHER WORLD - Nov 20,2006

THE SKINNY: You can never have enough things … This is apparently the philosophy of Universal Pictures and Strike Entertainment (previous collaborators on the DAWN OF THE DEAD remake, SLITHER and the upcoming CHILDREN OF MEN). The studio and the production company have announced that they’re embarking on a new version of John W. Campbell’s short story WHO GOES THERE?, better known to filmgoers as 1951’s THE THING FROM ANOTHER WORLD, directed by Christian Nyby and produced by Howard Hawks. Director/producer John Carpenter’s 1982 edition, THE THING, with mind-blowing special effects by Rob Bottin, is probably best known to today’s viewers. It’s likely that the new THING will resemble the Carpenter interpretation, with an alien that can look like anyone or anything giving bloody grief to a crew of researchers in Antarctica. Ronald D. Moore (executive producer of BATTLESTAR GALACTICA, also produced by NBC/Universal) is writing the screenplay.

Battlestar Hasbro Oct 21,2006

They new wave of Battlestar Galactica ships from Hasbro in the Titanium Series. Once again, no commercials, advertisements, or anything. Once again mixed in with the Star Wars line shipments. Although I have to admit, it was a pleasant surprise to stumble onto these. Here we have Colonial One, Colonial Raptor, and another Mark VII? I like to think I am a die hard Battlestar fan, but either this is a packaging mistake, or I missed something on the televised series. The older model ship in the first wave has the exact same name and description, just a different picture on the back, and of course, the different fighter inside. I'm kinda partial to the white original version myself, but hey, to each they're own. Maybe BattlesatarGalactica.com can shed some light onto this, are they both Mark VIIs, or did Hasbro screw up? Anyway, last on the list is the bigger version of the Galactica, which runs about $20, compared to it's smaller counter part from wave 1, which is $4.95. I did find on the Hasbro web site that they are slated to release the Cylon Centurion soon, which will be a larger model at about $20 as well. No picture is available at this time however. No word on the Pegasus or Scar yet, hopefully soon. For now, just do what we always do, keep fighting until we can't fight anymore.

RICHARD HATCH TO SIGN AT COMIC BUG Sept 25,2006

Television star and sci-fi writer Richard Hatch will be signing at the Comic Bug on Saturday, September 30th from noon to two o’clock. Hatch starred as Captain Apollo in the original 1979 version of Battlestar Galactica and plays Tom Zarek on the new, re-imagined version of the hit sci-fi series.

Richard Hatch has penned seven Battlestar Galactica novels that continue the adventures of the crew of the original series. He produced and directed a five minute trailer based off of those stories entitled Battlestar Galactica: The Second Coming. The Comic Bug will be screening the rare trailer during the signing as well as Hatch’s newest production The Great War of Magellan.

The Great War of Magellan is Richard Hatch’s newest creation, an epic, generation spanning sci-fi saga that incorporates Celtic elements and hair-raising space battles. The Great War of Magellan is currently in production as a graphic novel and role playing game.

The signing coincides with the release of Dynamite Entertainment’s Battlestar Galactica Classic #1 based on the original series. Comic Bug store manager and lifelong Galactica fan Mike Wellman said, The fact that Dynamite is publishing a comic series based on both the original and the new series proves that two versions of the same story can co-exist. Even though they share a name and concept, they’re really like apples and oranges. Personally, I love them both and I’m honored to host a signing with the only other commonality between the two shows, Richard Hatch! He’s the real deal, ladies and gentlemen! Engage your turbo thrusters and get your Vipers down to the Comic Bug!

Our four issue series shows Tom's beginnings as he grows up in a loving home amidst a slave state and alongside a Cylon work force -- all in the shadow of the First Cylon War. It's through these humble - and tragic - beginnings that he becomes the man we see in Battlestar Galactica today and this is where you'll learn all about him!

iFMagazine -Review: SEASON 3 PREMIERE Sept 11,2006

Is it possible to make something fantastic even better? Frakk yes! The third season premiere of SCI FI Channel’s BATTLESTAR GALACTICA is even better than Season 2. Picking up some four months after the last season cliffhanger, we find the last remnants of humanity living under Cylon rule. This is basically one big Holocaust analogy with the humans in a gulag being randomly taken and tortured and some never returning to their homes and families. Four months in which the rest of the fleet with both GALACTICA and PEGASUS have been trying desperately to form a plan of rescue for the people stuck on New Caprica. Baltar, still the president is now only doing what the Cylons tell him to do, and he has become the most despised human in existence.

Battlestar Galactica Music- June 23,2006

On Sunday night, I watched in awe as Bear McCreary, composer of the score to Battlestar Galactica, performed music from the show’s second season with his studio band for a modestly sized audience. Several times, I wondered if this fresh talent could be the vanguard of the next wave of important American composers. Comparisons can easily be drawn between Bear and John Williams, Hans Zimmer, and James Horner. He’s getting that good, bringing something new to the field of film composition....

What happened to my Battlestar Galactica? May 28,2006

..In case you haven’t seen it, Battlestar Galactica is a show for our post-9/11 times. The producers have taken the premise of the first series — that a race of evil robots is trying to exterminate humankind — and taken it to its logical conclusion. This is a program about what it’s like to exist during a genocide.

...But in spite of the slick touches, I can’t watch Battlestar Galactica. It’s too intense for me. It’s too dark. Literally. The whole thing looks like it takes place on the deck of a U-boat.....

Battlestar Galactica at MT&R May 21,2006

Friday, June 2, 2006 6:00 to 8:00 p.m.

A radical reimagining of ABC's 1970s show of the same name, the Sci Fi Channel's Battlestar Galactica has wowed critics and fans alike with sophisticated social commentary, nuanced character drama, and rip-roaring action. Even the Peabody Award judges were impressed, citing the series for revitalizing sci-fi television "with its parallax considerations of politics, religion, sex, and even what it means to be 'human.'"

The Museum will screen an episode of the series, followed by Q&A with the cast and creative team.

In Person: David Eick, Executive Producer Ronald D. Moore, Executive Producer/Head Writer Cast members to be announced.

Tickets are on sale to Members May 14. (On sale to general public May 21.)

Tickets: $15 ($12 for individual Museum Members). $7 for students with valid ID.

In Person: Purchase tickets in the Museum lobby Tuesdays to Sundays from 12:00 to 6:00 p.m. and until 8:00 p.m. on Thursdays. By Phone: Call 212.621.6600 from 12:00 to 5:00 p.m. Mondays to Fridays.

Lucas gets a clue - Original Star Wars Dvds! May 4,2006

Lucasfilm and 20th Century Fox Home Entertainment will issue the original, theatrical version of the "Star Wars" trilogy for the first time on DVD Sept. 12.

"Star Wars," "The Empire Strikes Back" and "Return of the Jedi" will each be released in two-disc versions containing the original theatrical version along with the 2004 digitally remastered version. Helmer George Lucas upgraded digital effects and otherwise altered the original movies to reflect the prequel trilogy for the DVD debut of his first three "Star Wars" pics. In the 2004 version, for example, "Star Wars" (by then considered "Episode IV: A New Hope") starts with a different title crawl than seen in theaters in 1977.

iFMagazine -CAPRICA quotes plus season three news! May 4,2006

Season three is just around the corner for SCI FI Channel’s BATTLESTAR GALACTICA, and producer David Eick is hard at work picking up after the year long jump forward at the end of season two. Taking time out from his absolutely swamped schedule Eick gave iF Magazine the exclusive scoop about the upcoming CAPRICA prequel series (which the editors here at the office have nicknamed GALACTICA: B.C.), and the return of Lucy Lawless and Dean Stockwell in season three.

iFMagazine - Prequel series -CAPRICA April 26,2006

THE SKINNY: In an official announcement today SCI FI Channel announced that the network would be producing a BATTLESTAR GALACTICA prequel series entitled CAPRICA. From executive producers Ronald D. Moore and David Eick (BATTLESTAR GALACTICA), writer Remi Aubuchon (24) and NBC Universal Television Studio, this new series is set over a half a century before the events that play out in BATTLESTAR GALACTICA.

iFMagazine - DAVID EICK.. GALACTICA April 19,2006

When David Eick was asked by Universal Studios to produce a new BATTLESTAR GALACTICA TV series, he knew he wanted to veer away from anything that would be conceived as a STAR TREK rip-off. Who better to helm the writing of the series, and to keep it away from TREK themes than Moore, who had worked on STAR TREK in it’s various incarnations for ten years. Thus began the creative process behind one of television’s most successful and popular Science Fiction dramas on the air.

REMENDER MAKES HIS “DYNAMITE” April 13,2006

Runnemede, NJ, April 2006 – Shortly after DYNAMITE ENTERTAINMENT announced its agreement with Universal Studios Consumer Products Group to produce comics based on the classic Battlestar Galactica series, the company has announced creator RICK REMENDER will write the opening arc as well as the ongoing series.

Remender, an award-winning, comic book writer, penciller, and inker as well as a feature film animator pitched ideas to DYNAMITE for the series launch.

“Rick’s making quite a name for himself as a writer and creator, and we’ve been following his work at Image with a lot of excitement -- Fear Agent is a great read and fans owe it to themselves to check it out -- but I digress,” explained DYNAMITE SPOKESPERSON J. ALLEN. For Battlestar Galactica, “We’re working on the art side right now to match someone up with this awesome script. It’s a fun process, as and Rick’s script is a perfect launch!”

"Given the recent rebirth of the franchise it's a real honor to be entrusted with the untold tales of the original Battlestar Galactica,” added Remender. “Like every blue-blooded kid in America in the late 70's, I was a big fan. I've been working hard at translating that childhood enthusiasm into what I hope will be seen as powerful and imaginative stories told with a fresh voice while staying true to the original tone. I'm a big Sci-Fi nerd so this is quite the dream job for me."

Remender’s opening arc will be four issues, and he is on board for the ongoing classic series. More details on Classic Battlestar comics to be released in the following weeks. And to close, a final word or two from Remender:

“The BSG premise is one of the most fascinating possible Sci-Fi high concepts to play off of. Homeless and left to the void of space after watching the destruction of your entire civilization-- these are real stakes that give birth to the kind of constant high stress/high drama that makes for very entertaining storytelling,” said Remender. “You also have such distinct and iconic characters with so much presence. For one, I’m pretty jazzed to get a swing at Starbuck and Commander Adama’s dialogue.”

iFMagazine - TV Review March 13,2006

"This time around, the Cylons were built to be servant machines to mankind. They rebel and flee to another planet to establish their own culture. When the original mini-series aired, there existed between the Cylons and humans an uneasy truce. During the forty or so odd years since the original Cylon War, they have evolved into human-looking robots. (Think TERMINATOR with emotions and a sex drive) The Cylons strike out at the human colonies with nuclear weapons and force the remnants of humanity to form a rag-tag fleet protected by the Battlestar Galactica, with one purpose- to find Earth."

BLAM! Ventures Announces Talent Search Dec 22,2005

December 2005. With the departure this past summer of series artist Lucius Romero, BLAM! Ventures took some time to consider how they wanted to proceed and has now decided to open up the search for who will illustrate the first story from Richard Hatch's The Great War of Magellan comic.

Any artist up for consideration has big shoes to fill; our last artist was very talented and pushed things to the limit. We are looking for talented, visionary artists to help us break through barriers we haven't even reached yet in this exciting new universe. You can be an awesome illustrator and a horrible storyteller, conversely you can have strong storytelling abilities and be a shoddy illustrator at best. And we need artists who are strong in the concept department. We're looking for awesome on all counts, and we're looking for it times three! That's right, we are searching for multiple artists to handle a big production schedule next year.

What we are looking for: Versatile artists with strong storytelling skills; a powerful visual style filled with depth, dynamics and verve, and an understanding of the commitment it takes to put out a comic book in today's market. This is a science fiction/fantasy universe, and we have a lot of tech, futuristic architecture and ships that needs drawing, so you must be able and comfortable with that. Plus, you need to be able to create realistic characters and creatures, and draw likenesses such as Richard Hatch. While we are open to artists from anywhere, we would prefer you be local to the NY/NJ/CT/PA area. This is a paid gig!

What we need from you now: Please send along samples of your work. Most important are sequential pages. Pin ups are nice, but tell us nothing of your storytelling ability, the sequential pages will give us a clue as to how you work, and whether we think we can work with you. Please send LINKS ONLY that show 3-5 pages of sequential work. Do not send attachments. There are plenty of artists' forums out there, and many are free of charge, so there are places online to showcase your work. If you must send us attachments, email us for permission and instructions.

Where to send: All submissions should be emailed to submissions@blamventures.com AND merlinquest@hotmail.com with the phrase GWOM Artist Search 2006 in the subject line.

Steven Michael Witt talks "Galactica" Oct 22,2005

From the birth of broadcast TV, until just before the turn of the twenty-first century, most weekly television series adhered to a predictable format. Each episode in a series was conceived as a stand alone adventure. Storylines would be introduced, developed, and then resolved within the given time slot of a program. Events which occurred in one episode would have little or no appreciable effect on future episodes in the series.

Richard Hatch - new projects on the way Oct 20,2005

"I have a movie coming out with Jake Busey, Gary Busey's son," said Hatch. "And I'm also producing my own science fiction series - a novelisation and comic book series called The Great War of Magellan, which I'm writing, directing and producing. I also have a Battlestar Galactica novel coming out called Redemption, the seventh book in the series."

'Battlestar', 'Atlantis' To See 3rd Seasons (SyFy Portal) Sept 27,2005

Sources at SciFi Channel are reporting that SciFi has unofficially decided to award both "Battlestar Galactica" and "Stargate: Atlantis" third-season pickups. The news was shared by SyFy Portal's Michael Hinman during a guest appearance on Sci-Fi Saturday Night on New Hampshire's 610 WGIR.

During the show, Hinman -- who appeared by telephone in the show's final hour -- said he had received unconfirmed reports that the third-season pickups have been decided. SciFi normally does not announce fate of shows during the first half of the seasons, which end this month. No word has been received on the fate of "Stargate: SG-1," but many industry insiders feel that the SciFi stalwart will see an unprecedented 10th season next summer.

As Battlestar Galactica (is there really any need to call it the “new Battlestar Galactica” anymore?) heads towards its midseason hiatus in a few weeks, what better time to chat with Ron Moore, executive producer and showrunner on the hit Sci Fi Channel series? And what better way to start off such a chat with some prodding of Moore about whether there will be a season three of Galactica or not…

MORE BATTLESTAR GALACTICA INTERVIEWS Sept 1,2005

Series host, Tony Tellado chatted with Paul Campbell, Lorena Gale and Tahmoh Penikett from the hit series.

Vancouver, BC (PRWEB) August 7.2005 - Tony Tellado of Sci-Fi Talk sat down with Battlestar Galactica cast members, Tahmoh Penikett who is Lt. Agathon, Lorena Gale who is Elosha, and Paul Campbell who plays Billy, at Gatecon

"Season Two is going to have a lot more character development. Since the first two episodes aired, a lot of stuff was cut because they simply had too much stuff. There will be more character development and back story between the characters. Relationships that you didn't quite know about. The History of them. For instance, Starbuck and Helo. People are starting to see in these first two episodes that we've know each other for a while." - Tahmoh Penikett

Lorena Gale gave me a different prospective on the series.

"I feel sorry for the Cylons, their desperation to be accepted as part of our world. That's what I see.Maybe that's not what the writers see. I don't think there is anything such as artificial intelligence. You endow something with the capacity to think."

Paul Campbell spoke about his co-star, Mary McDonnell:

"Having been given the opportunity to work with her day in and day out, because she is the most extraordinary person I have ever seen work. She is so professional. Every day is acting class for me. She knows her character, the show and my character inside and out. She makes the most plausible choice within the given circumstances."

Interview with Dirk Benedict Aug 13,2005

Eight actors from the 70s cult sci-fi TV series Battlestar Galactica visited Swindon memorabilia store Infinitely Better on Thursday 12th August to meet fans and sign autographs.

But most fans had gone along to meet one of the stars in particular, actor Dirk Benedict who played the handsome, charming pilot Lt. Starbuck. However Dirk is even more famous for playing the handsome, charming Face-man in The A-Team!

AARON DOUGLAS TALKS BATTLESTAR GALACTICA Aug 11,2005

Talented actor talks to Tony Tellado about his character and season two of the acclaimed Sci-Fi Channel series in Podcast Interview.

Vancouver, BC (PRWEB) August 7.2005 - Tony Tellado of Sci-Fi Talk sat down with Vancouver native Aaron Douglas, who plays Chief Tyrol on Battlestar Galactica at Gatecon.

He discussed the realistic approach of the series.

"A lot of the stuff that they write in season one and season two are very much "ripped from the pages" They will read things that go on in other parts of the world and in the military.A lot of the guys (producers) have intimate knowledge. They either have been in the military, or family members or they've studied a lot of it. So they get a lot of real life situations and they translate them into stories for the show. My character in particular is caught in the middle, leading a group of people but still having to take orders. He's sort of absolved of responsibility if a bunch of people die. because he can say that he was following orders. What I like about the character is that the writers at least have him say something. He'll say that "This is wrong. or I just need this or that..."At least he can walk away sa=ying that he did everything that he possibly could"

On season two, this talented actor told me to expect the same high standards set in season one.

"I think season two is better than season one. Season One was tremendous. It had its high point ten out of ten episodes and then it had the lesser like every series has. Season two at least at the start is a little more action packed. It really picks up where (episodes) twelve and thirteen left off. I know for myself, I'm getting to do a lot more cool things. The Boomer situation is sort of now a substory for me. So I'm not the guy walking around in the fog all of the time. He can stand up and be a man, which I'm liking. They've given me some really, really cool things to do. They've given me some brilliant writing They've been very generous to me so I'm quite pleased."

Farewell, Scotty July 21,2005

James Doohan, who played engineer Montgomery Scott, the scrappy Scotsman who repeatedly gave the Starship Enterprise "all she's got" in the original "Star Trek" TV series and motion pictures, died Wednesday. He was 85.

Doohan died at 5:30 a.m. at his Redmond, Wash., home with his wife of 31 years, Wende, at his side, Los Angeles agent and longtime friend Steve Stevens said. The cause of death was pneumonia and Alzheimer's disease, he said.

While not Battlestar News , all sci-fi fans will miss this great actor. However, he will live on forever in the STAR TREK universe.
