By Shawn O'Donnell

Richard Hatch Photo ShootYou know what the hardest part of writing an article is?
Yep, you guessed it...the beginning.
So now that I've started I guess I can flow with the rest of it.
So "what" is an "anatomy of a photo shoot"?
In this case the subject of said shoot is none other than Richard Hatch...and this is how we got there:

Richard Hatch Welcomes you to Battlestar Galactica

Richard Hatch Welcome Battlestar fans old and new to what will soon be a new and expanded BG social network serving all of us that love this amazing story that has now spanned over three decades.

The plan is to build a world location and destination for Battlestar fans that will be linked with our brother and sister site “battlestarfanclub.com” and other BG sites that are willing to collaborate with us on serving the BG community in the most viable and supportive way possible. Working together we can create an amazing fan experience for all of you that have followed the epic journey of this show from its inception to the re-imagined version to Caprica and the up and coming BSG series pilot Blood and Chrome.

It’s time we built a unified BSG community that can mobilize and energize the fan base so we can help motivate and inspire the Studios to continue bringing us more Galactica programming!! Star Trek did it and so can we! Current webmaster Daniel Allan along with Shawn O'Donnell from the BSG fan page and my good buddy and partner Michael Wehrhahn are helping us design and put together this exciting new Battlestar Galactica community site. It’s been a long time coming and I’ve had many challenges in putting this together, but we are now on course to finally finish the new Battlestar social network. So please check in with us when you can and we will continue to share updates on the progress we’re making and we all look forward to welcoming you to the debut of this new Battlestar Galactica site in the near future.

PS: I will be hosting another BG panel on Thursday the 21st at San Diego Comic-con this year so I hope to see all you that can make it there. We always have a lots of great guests and BG panelists from the show. Don’t miss it!! We will also be filming some scenes for a new movie I’m directing at the event this year so watch for our camera and film crew. Should be the best year yet and I know it’s going to be four hoots of fun for everyone attending. Look forward to meeting all of you and sharing a shot or two in downtown San Diego.

LOL. Let the Fraking fun begin!!

So Say We All!!

Jack Stauffer Welcomes Fans to Battlestar Galactica.com

Jack "Bojay" StuafferJoining the cast of BSG was great fun for me as it reunited me with Richard Hatch.  Richard and I started All My Children together in 1970 and worked closely together for the first couple of years on that show.  We developed a friendship that has endured for 40 + years.
When Richard launched his effort to bring BSG back, he asked me to participate and I was glad to do so.  The new reinvisioning of BSG that was such a hit on the SciFi network would never have occurred if Richard's trailer of the 2nd. Coming hadn't stirred up so much interest among the fans.  Richard and I travelled all over the country promoting his vision of a new BSG.  At conventions I met so many devoted fans of the show.  I was overwhelmed by their support and love for the original series.  They were all wonderful.  Alas, the powers that be decided to do the Ron Moore version.  Richard of course made several appearances on the new series, but It always seemed a shame that the rest of the original cast members were never asked to appear.  All of us have stayed in touch over the years emphasizing how well we all got along during those tumultuous eighteen hour days shooting the original show.

What am I doing these days?.  I will say, I was lucky to pursue a career that I loved for forty years. There were good times and there were lean years.  I finally left the television industry after 2000 simply because there was very little work available for the over 50 crowd and the few jobs that were available were snapped up by actors who were much higher on the celebrity list than I was.  The final straw for me was at an audition after being asked to read for a minor role on a syndicated show.  I have never minded auditioning but this part was miniscule.  At the height of my career I would never have considered doing it let alone reading for it.  It was the sort of part that a director or casting director would usually just give to a new actor so he could start building a resume.  Anyway, I went. At this audition were eight other actors that I knew ( for a freaking six line role ) .  Every one of these talented performers was a former highly recognized series star.  Most also had major film credits.  One old friend who shall remain nameless was not only a former series star but also the star of an immensely popular motion picture.  I asked him what the hell he was doing there and he replied that he needed a job so he could keep his SAG medical insurance. That was when i knew it was time to quit.

SO - I went back to my roots and my greatest love, the theatre.  For most of the 1990's I had done more and more stage work on the Southern California circuit and had a wonderful time playing such roles as Harold Hill in "Music Man', Fagin in "Oliver", Alfie in "My Fair Lady" among many others.  Since then, although I still perform occasionally,  I have concentrated primarily on directing.  I love it.  As an actor you are primarily concerned with your role and its relationship with the plot and other characters.  As a director you are responsible for the entire picture.  I always loved doing that. It also allows me to pay forward to other actors what I have learned over the many years of my career.   I currently direct for three theatres here on the Monterey Peninsula and one in the San Francisco area.  I have just closed Peter Shaffer's "Lettice and Lovage" and am looking forward to directing Neil Simon's "Rumors in September.  Then, on to two projects up in the bay area which will take me through next spring.  After that, I am sure I will never work again .......
